What RentORNot.net keeps, and what it never asks for. Last changed October 17, 2026.
No accounts, no email from us
There are no user accounts. The site sends no email and has no newsletter. There is no analytics service and there are no advertising or tracking cookies. Fonts and pictures come from this site; the one outside thing some pages load is a labelled banner ad from adengine.us, WeldonPC’s own ad network (see Advertising).
Advertising
The home page, the landlord directory and business pages, Pricing, the content policy, the page for businesses and the Rent-or-Not Check introduction show one banner ad below the page, labelled “Advertisement”. It comes from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind RentORNot.net. For now the ads are for WeldonPC’s own services; no landlord or property manager can buy one, and an ad never changes a review. Review, report, response and dispute forms, your Check board, search results, the terms, this page and error pages show no ad, and nothing you type or keep here is sent to adengine.us.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your IP address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests; your browser tells it only that you came from rentornot.net, not which page.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your IP address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your IP address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC’s own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for RentORNot.net, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser’s site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared.
Reviews
A review keeps what you typed, your ratings and years, and a one-way code made from your connection's address (used to limit spam; the address itself is not stored). Your name is never asked for or shown. Your withdraw code is stored only as a one-way code too. Rejected or removed reviews keep their text for 90 days, for the record of the decision, and then the text is erased. A withdrawn review's text is erased from the site's database at once.
Backups and server logs
To recover from a failure, nightly database copies are kept for 14 days, and a copy is made at each site update (the last 10 updates are kept). Text erased from the site stays in those copies until they expire. The web server's access logs record each connection's address and the page asked for, as on any website; they are archived monthly and removed after about two months. None of these copies is published or shared.
Reports, responses and disputes
The email address you give on a business response or dispute (or, optionally, on a report) is seen only by the editor and is never published. It is erased 90 days after the request is decided.
The Rent-or-Not Check
Your board keeps the places and numbers you enter, tied to a private link (the site stores only a one-way code of it). Do not enter anyone's personal details. A board not opened for two years is deleted, unless a Pass is running; you can delete yours at any time.
Cookies
Three, all first-party and needed for the site to work: one holds your Check link (if you start a Check), one protects forms against forgery (on pages with a form), and the editor's desk has its own sign-in cookie.
Payments
When payments open, PayPal handles them; RentORNot.net never sees your card. It keeps only the PayPal subscription reference and the paid-through date.
